Incremental Adaptive Loop Subdivision

چکیده
In this paper, a new adaptive Loop subdivision algorithm is introduced. Adaptive subdivision refines specific areas of a model according to user or application needs. Our algorithm extends the specified area such that when it is adaptively subdivided, it produces a smooth surface with visually pleasing connectivity. As adaptive subdivision is repeated, subdivision depth changes gradually from one area of the surface to another area. This smooth transition is analogous to antialiasing.

Incremental subdivision for triangle meshes
We introduce incremental subdivision as a new adaptive subdivision method for triangle meshes. While regular (global) subdivisions produce a smooth surface from a given polygon mesh by refining all of its faces, adaptive subdivision produces a surface by refining only some selected areas of the mesh. Consequently, the selected area becomes fine and high resolution while the rest of mesh is coar...

Reverse subdivision aims at constructing a coarser representation of an object given by a fine polygon mesh. In this paper, we first derive a mask for reverse Loop subdivision that can be applied to both regular and extraordinary vertices. The mask is parameterized, and thus can also be used in reversing variants of Loop subdivision, such as those proposed by Warren and Litke. We apply this mas...
متن کاملSubdivision Surface Tesselation on the Fly using a versatile Mesh Data Structure
Subdivision surfaces have become a standard technique for freeform shape modeling. They are intuitive to use and permit designers to flexibly add detail. But with larger control meshes, efficient adaptive rendering techniques are indispensable for interactive visualization and shape modeling. In this paper, we present a realization of tesselation-on-the-fly for Loop subdivision surfaces as part...
متن کاملA priori Computation of a mesh size for Adaptive Loop Subdivision
Subdivision schemes provide efficient algorithms both for the design and processing of arbitrary control meshes. Theoretically, these techniques are often considered as an elegant algorithmic way to approximate a desired surface from a given surface. In practice, controlling the accuracy of control meshes with regard to the limit surface remains difficult. In this paper, from a bound of the dis...
متن کاملAdaptive Subdivision Schemes for Triangular Meshes
Of late we have seen an increase in the use of subdivision techniques for both modeling and animation. They have given rise to a new surface called the subdivision surface which has many advantages over traditional Non Uniform Rational B-spline (NURB) surfaces. Subdivision surfaces easily address the issues related to multiresolution, re nement, scalability and representation of meshes. Many sc...
